As a result of Bishopton's strong representations it was decided by the Glasgow and Clyde Valley Joint Committee that there would be a further round of consultations on the Structure Plan 2005 Alteration. The planners have submitted some new reports for this consultation. These reports finally reveal the planners justification for proposing Bishopton as an area of urban expansion. Bishopton Action Group believes that their justification is weak. Questions relating to contamination and the provision of education and social facilities remain unanswered.

The next step in our campaign is to try and affect the draft Structure Plan for Glasgow and the Clyde Valley. The structure plan provides a framework for strategic policies for the long term planning and development of the area. It involves Renfrewshire Council and seven other local authorities. Within it Bishopton is listed as an "area for urban expansion" and when Renfrewshire Council receive the planning application for the proposed development they will compare it to both the structure plan and the local plan. If BAE and Redrows' plans match the plans in the structure plan then they will have the green light to build.
The structure plan has two stages. The first stage is the consultative draft which was released on the 10th of May and representations (objection letters) can be received up until the 21st of June 2005.
Once this stage is completed the final draft will be submitted to the Scottish Ministers for approval. This shall occur at the end of 2005 and at that time we shall have a further chance to make representations.
To this end, we will deliver a letter of objection to each house in the village during the week 1st - 8th June and ask for support in the form of a signed opposition letter. Clear instructions will be given to attain maximum impact. This part of the process is vital and copies of our objection letter can be found in the "Letter of Objection" section of the website. Objections to the Structure Plan
All the Community Councils in the area agree:
Erskine Community Council
Inchinnan Community Council
Houston Community Council
Langbank Community Council
Bishopton Community Council that this plan is based on fundamentally flawed information and should be objected against.
Based upon this flawed data, the plan in its current form will destroy not just our community but those that neighbour with us.
We make the difference! We live here, We make the community. Let them know this!
